Vector-Borne Diseases (VBD)

Vector-Borne Diseases (VBD) are a set of diseases caused by various parasites, viruses, and bacteria transmitted by vectors such as mosquitoes and ticks. These vectors consume microorganisms from an infected host (human or animal) and then transmit them to a new host, which can result in serious human illness.

AptVet collaborates with clinics, government agencies, and public health laboratories to promote best practices, produce guidelines, and conduct vital laboratory trainings for the nation’s most prevalent vector-borne diseases. Cases of human illness related to vector-borne disease infections have continued to rise annually, and public health laboratories have played a crucial role in conducting high-quality testing to assess regional disease burden and advise the nation’s response to vector-borne diseases.
